Everything start in 1949 when Laurent Fortier, following his formation at the technical school of Trois-Rivières, founds Fortier Ornamental Iron. Located in an agricultural area, the demand for machinery maintenance takes more and more of importance and marks the young company entrance in this business sector. During the 50s, M. Fortier designs a revolutionary manure loader which will be produced at more than 12 000 units in Ste-Clotilde facilities and distributed by Forano in Canada and in the United States. In 1966, the name Fort Metal Ltee is adopted.

Always listening at the producers needs, the business takes the decision in 1970, to start manufacture smoothwall monocoque feed bins, an innovator product for the era. Since then, the feed bins had become the main product and the one who gets most of the developpement effort.

In 1995, it is his son Patrice who continues the evolution of Fort Metal and who perpetuate the expertise acquired to this day. In 2000, he puts on the market a bigger version of the well known bin with a capacity of 19.5 metric tons.

In 2019, David, Patrice’s son, join the company as the 3rd generation and brings help to the sustained growth. In 2021, it is, on average per year, 350 bins delivered everywhere in East of Canada. With almost 10 000 bins manufactured since its foundation, the main goal stay the same : offer producers the most efficient storing options on the market.
